F For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of Power, Love and Self-Discipline 2 Timothy 1:7

One of my favorite verses to pray over my kids. Don’t we all need this one in our hearts?

D Do everything without complaining or arguing. Philippians 2:14

My kids have been pointing this verse out to each other A LOT! šŸ™‚ Don’t we all need to do better at this? With the two lessons, crafts and activities I wanted them to learn one main thing. We can CHOOSE to be thankful instead of complaining and arguing.

Valentines Day

We’re doing these tomorrow night with our group. I usually do this at Valentines Day and the answers from my kiddos are always hilarious and also sweet.things I loveDAD things I loveMOM

Some other neat resources I’ve found are:

Love Scriptures:

And I’m doing this for my kiddos this year. I might not have time to design it but I’m at least going to write 10 things I love about them in a card. šŸ™‚

C Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

This verse is special to me for a lot of reasons. I love the whole Psalm and it’s a great example of how to go about true repentance. I love all the different prayers David pours out to God. David majorly screwed up and yet God showed his mercy on him. It’s a great lesson to teach our kids. David the amazing man of the bible messed up BIG time. He needed Jesus and so do we. Thank goodness you are waiting with open arms and never turn away a truly sorry heart.

I ended up coming up with an activity that I really felt would be best as a take home lesson so it could be done one on one with a parent instead of for one of our group nights which are kinda hectic with 11 kids.

PARENT TIME:

LESSON OBJECTIVE : I have sin in my heart and Jesus can make me clean. (Very much the foundational understanding of salvation.)

Download the LESSON HERE: Give Me a Pure Heart Activity

Basic run down: We drew a heart and filled it up with all the sin we could come up with and then we talked about how our hearts are sinful and Jesus is the only one who can make them clean. I gave them foam hearts and with washable markers they wrote sin that was in their hearts. Then we used a wipe which represented Jesus to wipe the sin away. The sin was then was on Jesus. We then wrote Jesus on the heart and talked about how Jesus can make our hearts clean when we ask him for forgiveness for the sin in our hearts. We talked about asking Jesus into our hearts for him to help us do the things that God wants us to do. So then they wrote good things that Jesus would help us do on the hearts. We talked about how we can continue to choose to sin, but that when Jesus is in our hearts to help, he helps us follow him and keep asking him for forgiveness. The kids loved it and were really excited to erase those bad things and replace them with good things. We talked about how Jesus is so amazing for doing that for us.

I typed up the whole lesson and it is written to be understood by young children. This lesson could easily be altered and I could picture it being impactful for teenagers as well. I had once done an activity with a group of teen girls where we wrote sins on pieces of paper, asked Jesus to forgive them one by one and then wrote JESUS over the sin in red marker, ripped them up and burnt all our pile of pieces in a bonfire while praying and thanking God for his forgiveness. It was powerful. This heart lesson was powerful for my kiddos and it’s given us great conversations about sin and forgiveness.

GROUP TIME:

We talked about who David was and how he messed up and how our verse was his prayer to God because he was truly sorry and wanted God’s help to get his heart clean.

VELCRO LAMINATED HEART ACTIVITY: We did this as a relay with two teams to build the verse.

THREADED HEART:I put tape on the end of the yarn to make it easier to thread, used card stock and then taped the back with packing tape when I was done. This one is more for older kids, mine got frustrated with it so we didn’t use it for our group. I want to try it again with them when I can sit and help them with it because they love how it looks when it’s done.

A As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

I loved starting out with this verse. It’s such an awesome declaration to make. It’s also a choice that we make.

My kids memorized the verse before the song, As for me and my house by John Waller, came out and they heard it on the radio and were so excited to hear their verse!!!

Our family gets pumped listening to this song. šŸ™‚ We came up with motions for it and it would be a great tool to use to learn the verse.

Here’s a link to the youtube video.

Here are the lyrics:

I’m done
Building my own kingdom
No more
Seeking worthless idols

Like sheep we have all gone astray
We must choose this day
Whom we will serve
As for me and my house
We will serve the Lord
We will serve the Lord
Idols raised, tear them down
Cause we will serve the Lord
We will serve the Lord
To one king we bow down
As for me and my house
We will only serve the Lord

I’m done
With powerless religion
No more
Living in deception

As for me and my house
We will serve the Lord
We will serve the Lord
Idols raised, tear them down
Cause we will serve the Lord
We will serve the Lord
To one king we bow down
As for me and my house
We will only serve the Lord

We will cross over Jordan
We will claim what you promised

As for me and my house
We will serve the Lord
We will serve the Lord
Idols raised, tear them down
Cause we will serve the Lord
We will serve the Lord
To one king we bow down
As for me and my house
We will only serve the Lord

We will not give our hearts to another
Will not give our hearts to another
We belong to the Lord
We will not give our hearts to another
Will not give our hearts to another
We will only serve the Lord

Kids Small Group

Whatā€™s Kidā€™s Small Group Time? My husband and I lead a weekly small group of adults AND kids. We share a meal as families and then the adults share and pray while the kids have their own small group time. My husband and I really wanted our kids to benefit from a small group in the same way that adults do and have it be an intentional time for them instead of childcare to just ā€œkeep them busy and from killing each otherā€. We wanted to maximize their time weekly to worship God through singing, learn scripture together, reinforce scripture with crafts and activities, build relationships with each other, and pray for one another. Iā€™ll be sharing what weā€™re doing with their time and hope it encourages others.

ABC Verses have been veryĀ  popular. You can find sets of them all over Pinterest and the Internet. It’s been an awesome way for the kids and I to be anywhere and be able to “run through” the whole alphabet of verses without forgetting how they start. šŸ™‚ Because my kids did so well with the ABC verses and enjoyed them so much, I decided to make my own version of selected verses for our Kids Small Group.

I’ll share the resources I’ve designed for your personal/not for profit use. šŸ˜‰ Below are samples of A and B letter size posters.

My Hope

Iā€™m a mom of 4 year old twins and a baby. Iā€™m passionate about finding ways to point my kids to Jesus and my hope is to share some fun ideas to encourage other moms to do the same. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. ā€“ Deuteronomy 6:7

Since my twins were very little, Iā€™ve loved coming up with ideas to help them memorize Godā€™s word. I started when they were 2 by making a poster with picture symbols to help them learn John 3:16. Planting seeds of truth in their little hearts is so important. I take Deuteronomy 6:7Ā literally and try to use every opportunity to teach them who their savior is. Not to memorize for the sake of memorizing but to teach them about who God is and how he wants us to live. Obviously memorizing scripture is a small piece of what God wants us to do as parents, more importantly WE must ask for God’s help to LIVE IT OUT and let them know that we also need a savior. We canā€™t save our children but we CAN point them to the ONE who can! My husband is a Childrenā€™s Pastor and we together have been more passionate then ever to see our kids built up spiritually in these days so they can to do mighty things for Godā€™s kingdom now, not just when they become adults.
